Fun for ALL ages! My daughter got this for her 5th birthday and it is a HUGE hit. I also have a seven year old son who doesn't even care that he's riding on a pink car.
I know it has gotten a couple bum reviews, but let me tell you about our experience with it. This car basically runs on kinetic energy. You have to wiggle the steering wheel back and forth and the motion gets it going. We've had it on a variety of hard surfaces including pavement (most difficult place to get it to go), pergo, tile, and cement and it's been fun. My kids have no problems zooming around from surface to surface except for asphalt. Like I said, asphalt is difficult to ride it on, but not impossible. It's VERY important to get the screw for the steering wheel in correctly and tightly for optimum car performance.
I will also admit to riding on the thing and really having a great time. It's part ride on kiddie car and part Disneyland, in my opinion. Once you get it going, zooming around while going back and forth reminds me of being on some of the track rides at the theme park (obviously in a scaled down version). That fun wooshy feeling is there (albeit, a slower woosh than theme park rides, unless you are going down a hill, which is not recommended by the manufacturer, probably due to our overtly litigious society). It's also a really good work out for your arms. I think I am starting to loose some of that jiggle that sets in after thirty. Ha ha!
If you are looking for something that is going to do all the work for you, this probably isn't the toy for you. But if you have a reasonable expanse of hard flooring, driveway, and/or sidewalks and you want your kids to actually have to do something other than press a button to go, I recommend PlasmaCar. Now I just have to order one in a "boy" color so the kids will stop fighting over it. Okay, and I MIGHT get one for me. :)

My 6 year old grandson got one for this past Christmas. His 8 year old brother really liked it and used some of his Christmas money to purchase one. Then his 4 year old sister wanted one for her birthday. So now there are 3 of them and the kids are having great fun with them. They ride them on their tile floor in their home and outside on the sidewalk. There is even a 2 1/2 year old who has no problem making them go. I don't know if the car has been improved since the August 2007 review, but my grandkids have had no problems getting the cars to go fast. It amazes me how they can turn them on a dime and totally miss the walls in the house. Sometimes the boys will give the girls rides and even with the extra body on it, the thing really goes.

I ordered this car for my 2yr old's birthday present. I was hesitant b/c the youngest suggested age is 3yrs, and I didn't want it to sit unused for a year. But happily she is able to use the car just fine. Within a few moments she got into a rhythm and did great. She isn't super fast on it, but that doesn't bother me since she is still little. She was cracking up and having a ball. And I enjoyed it very much myself. We got on it together (and sadly we were VERY near the 220lb weight limit) and it still worked like a charm. No complaints. I was surprised that the car came in a plain brown box. I don't know if that is EVERY plasma car, or if I just got a returned product. Still everything was in the box, and it all appeared to be new. I also ordered a generic brand "coaster car" for my nephew so that they could play on them together. The "coaster car" works just as well. It is made of slightly less strong plastic, and I did have to retighten the center bolt after a few hours of use. But it was definitely a good buy at $22 cheaper than this. I am happy with both purchases and would make both of them again.

You do have to tighten the steering wheel down tight to get the car to function properly. I can even zoom around with my two year old sitting with me. He also likes to just push it around with his feet. Fun for the whole family!

I saw this product and thought it would be great for my three year old's third birthday. She cannot ride a tricycle so as an alternative, I picked the plasma car. My children love this thing. My 7 year old lets the three year old ride on the back and they play imaginary games like they they are driving somewhere, etc. So it has sparked some imagination in my kids which I think is great. My three year old rides on it by pushing it with her feet and she is now getting to the point where she understands to pull the wheel from side to side. I've ridden on it and so has my husband. It is very well made, easy to assemble and durable. It has suffered much abuse from my kids and still rolls like its brand new.

If you have tile floors in you house, this is a perfect inside toy- carpets really don't work good. I'm 60 and grandchildren from ages 2-10 and we all love it! I bought 2 so they could play together. They spent over an hour doing nothing but riding the PlasmaCar. The two oldest said they were playing house by "driving" to the store and back. I tell all my grandmother friends about this toy, I can't recommend it enough. The only problem I have with one is the shaft can't be tightened enough and the wheels and steering wheel get out of "sync" but this only happened when the men drove it- 180 pounds.

So we got one for her 3rd bday, and we've made it our "inside" car (we have a lot of tile flooring). It maneuvers really well inside, and our 5 year old loves it just as much. They often ride together. My husband and our friends have even tried it out--it's been fun! :) It's really the first "toy car" my daughters have used that actually steers. Those other toy cars that just move in one straight line are great for 1 year olds that are merely sitting on it, but ridiculous for kids who want to GO! I highly recommend PlasmaCars--they are definitely worth the money!

Our kids (4 and 7) love it. They even ride together with no problem. It is very popular with visiting kids and we've bought one so far as a birthday present. The older sister of the lucky birthday girl was hugely jealous.
The surface needs to be smooth to work best. They use it on the sidewalk but it works extremeley well on our tile floor (smooth with small grout lines). We had a saltillo tile floor and the grout lines were too large to allow for smooth riding. I'm sure hardwood and linoleum work well too. They use it in the normal wiggle mode to move but also push with their feet. It is great for playing "shopping", "taxi" and other car-centric games.

The PlasmaCar is destined to become a classic toy. No motors or electronics (what a concept!), but tons of fun. It runs on kid's energy and imagination. We particularly like that the little ones can push themselves using their feet or use the car's unique design to propel themselves by turning the steering wheel back and forth. Double the opportunity for fun exercise. It's built very well and even looks strangely cool. It can be a bit noisy, though, especially on rougher surfaces, but that's usually masked by the kids' gleeful squealing. With luck, the designers will move from the harder wheels to softer urethane wheels on future versions to ease the noise. Overall, this is a great toy. Much more worth the expense than video games.

For me, this toy is teasing, but falls short of expectations. Why? Because it sells for a premium, and is built at a discount. It is not durable even for a 3-Yr girl. The steering keeps alignment to front wheels for minutes; tightening as instructed does not suffice. Needed a lock washer and alignment pin. Should either be priced-up and worth it, or priced at $35 if supplied as-is. Best recommendation is don't purchase online. Instead, do at a local store where they can support the product as-needed. My 7 year old son and 3 year old daughter loved the Plasmacar in the mall, so we bought one for the house. Only to learn that it does not work well (at all) on the carpeted surfaces of our house. It needs hard smooth surfaces or very tight commercial carpeting to work at all. The other gotcha is assembly, which is difficult. Honestly I don't see how anyone could put it together without a socket wrench, a mallet, and big forearms. For those of you with carpets, I recommend Rody instead -- no assembly required (just inflate and use), and works on all surfaces.
Yes, this is a negative review, and all you Plasmacar fan boys and girls ask yourself: Was it easy to assemble with the provided tools or did you need to dip into your tool box? Did the steering wheel stay on tight the first time you put it together or did you have to retighten a few times? Do your children ride it happily on deep pile carpeting? And if your answer to all three questions is Yes, then please feel free to mark my review non-helpful. But if you struggled a bit to put it together, or if you kids don't ride it on deep pile carpeting, then please withhold your judgment here. Thank you!

50.) Too Slow!
Reviewed by: Mom of Two Girls Texas USA
Rating:
I wish I had known that this car only really moves on a smooth surface. We tried it out on our sidewalk (which isn't too old or too cracked), and it goes unbearably slow. After my 3.5 year old became frustrated at the snail's pace, both my husband and I tried it out - we couldn't get it to go any faster.
We tried it in our house, which is 80% tile, and even on the 12inch tiles it didn't move very fast. The only place we could get it up to a "normal" speed was in our tiny garage. Ironically, that is where this toy now sits, unused...in our garage.
If you have access to a large, *very* smooth floor, than this toy is worth the outrageous price. However, don't plan on using it outside for walks, or else you will end up with a very disappointed child.
