UPDATE June 2006..still working great!
---------------------
OK, updating this for kicks and giggles as of October 2005. We still have the battery and it workds great. You really must follow the instructions. Just wanted to let people know I stand by what I wrote.
------------------------------------------------
We have this battery and it works great. We were very skeptical because of all the bad reviews. However, if you follow the instructions to the T it works great. The initial charge MUST be 18 hours. We did ours 24. You CANNOT run this battery completely dead. Once you see the toy start to lose it's speed where first is really doggy, then you must take the battery out and charge it. Again, it must be charged the entire cycle of 18 hours. We have been following these instructions (which are the manufacturers) and it works great. My son can get about 3 hours if running it nonstop. Which he has done a few times. Don't try to quick charge this because it is not made to do that. Also, you must charge it once every month when it is not being used (i.e, winter months). Again, the instructions per the manufacturer.

We have two of the Peg Perego vehicles - the Jeep Gaucho Grande and a John Deere Gator. The original batteries seemed to do okay and lasted about a year and a half (including the months of Nov-Feb when the toys weren't being used). I ordered two new batteries last year and they no longer work. I am extremely dissapointed (...) and my kids are mad that they can't ride the toys any more. It makes me sick!

This battery stinks. We bought the John Deere Gator last year and the battery worked perfect. Less than a year later, the battery goes dead after 20 minutes and does not have the POWER (2 kids cannot ride on it now, because the battery is not powerful enough) it had when it was new. I've had power wheel batteries previously, and they lasted ALOT longer and with better charge quality than this battery. I hate the idea of shelling out another [$] for this battery!!!!!!!

THE JEEP AND THE 2 GARBAGE CANS MELTED DOWN INTO ONE BIG BLOB-CAUSING A LITTLE GIRL TO CRY! DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!

I purchased the Peg Perego Ride-on Gator for my son for his last birthday almost a year ago. The original battery still works fine but, as many of you know, is not always charged when we need it. It seems to run out of charge at the most inopportune times-right in the middle of the fun! I purchased another battery at [$$$] plus shipping and handling so that we would always have a back-up-oops!!! It has been raining almost every day since the purchase 40 days ago so we really haven't had the opportunity to use this battery. The first time we used it-it was geat, but after re-charging it 2 times, it no longer works. Because it has been over 30 days since the purchase-too bad!! From what I gather, it can't be returned. This really stinks!

The battery came fully charged, doesnt take long to recharge, and allows my son many hours of fun on his ride on tractor before I have to recharge it. I was worried it would not fit into the battery slot since it was larger than the original battery that came with the tractor we have, but it does fit. I am very happy with this battery, glad I bought it.

I follow the 18hour rule with use of this battery on my sons Peg Perego Polaris ATV. No issues at all and he is getting 2+ hours of ride time with each charge. We typically plug in the battery after each use and let the battery charge overnight so about 18hours from the time he puts it up and comes home from kindergarden the next day. Its a little high priced and yes a lawn mower/motorcycle battery will work if your into splicing wires and cutting up your childs ride on...for me it was much easier to get this battery which works great and fits in the space provided....keep it fully charged and it will continue to work for years....

I also looked into purchasing this item, but read an earlier review of someone who placed a small 12 volt lawn tractor or motorcycle battery into the toy gator with success. I purchased a 12 volt motorcycle battery and used the connector from the previous dead prego battery. This allowed me to attach the new motorcycle battery to the gator. When I removed the wires from the old battery I removed the blue cap, and was able to save the fuse that is built in. Anyway, it works great was half the cost, and I can hook it up to my 12 volt battery charger. In order to be the new battery to fit I had to enlarge the battery box, by doing some cutting. I was not real pretty, but my daught is not picking dates up with it.

I am not sold on this battery yet, but we love the Polaris 4-wheeler. We charged it for 20 hours and we got around 1 hour 20 minutes from the battery, on not very level ground, and for about 15 minutes our older child road it and she is around 120lbs. Our younger child is 50 lbs. We charged it for 6 hours and got another 1 and 15minutes out of the battery. We are looking into either getting another battery or using a lawnmower battery in it, like one of the other reviewer suggested, since we have 4 children that need to take turns riding it. We would need atleast three batteries at the rate we are going. The charger gets very hot when plugged into the wall, and it does not shut off when fully charged. I have heard of house fires from these types of things. We are still looking into all of our options, and I will up-date this review when I get more information.

26.) Actually this is a Standard SLA 12volt battery
Reviewed by: rbbiggs Quinton, VA United States
Rating:
With further research while removing the blue plastic cap, I discovered this is a simple SLA (sealed lead acid) battery.
All you have to do is google "SLA battery" and look for 12volt 12Ah (amp hour). They range from 25 to 38 dollars, with several manufactures. (mostly Chinese)
Anyway, all you have to do is cut one side of the blue cap band, remove the cap and unplug the harness. Plug the harness into the new battery, add a set of "Battery Tender" terminals, duct tape the blue cap back on, and BINGO.
These are the same batteries sold for electric scooters and wheelchairs.
New battery 1/2 the cost. Only now you have a battery tender connection to plug in and recharge the battery with a proper charger instead of that cheap POS Peg Perego sells.
Brands are:
Genisis (Yuasa)
BB
Leoch
Toyo
Century
and about a half dozen others.

My son has the John Deere Power Pull Tractor which uses this battery. Due to the numerous complaints about the battery, and because the battery that came with the tractor only lasts about 30 minutes before needing a recharge, I decided to take a different route.
I bought a 12 volt battery intended for lawn tractors/snow mobiles/etc. It will cost a heck of a lot less than Peg Perego's battery.
I then spliced the wires from the tractor, the red one is positive, obviously, and connected them to the battery. I then used a piece of wire to hold the new battery down. It works perfectly and literally runs an entire day before needing a recharge. And of course I use a car battery charger to charge it.
So, you'll save money and you kids will get MUCH more enjoyment!
29.) Buyer Beware
Reviewed by: K. Weathersbee Boise, ID USA

Battery is way overpriced. Contact Battery Store near you! I did and found this same exact battery type(2-6volt Batteries) for much less. While there they told me I could use a low amp 12v Deep Cycle battery instead. It did take some time wiring (FUSED LINK IS A MUST) but is well worth it. Lasts all day and you can charge it at a 2 amp "trickle charge" with a "amp selectable" car battery charger. All told it cost me less than $60 for everything. It now longer just "Takes Up Space".
